Here and Now

I've realized that, lately, all my posts are looking back at my vacation in the month of September and early October, and that it's about time that I commented on the here and now. We've had a very mild Fall, and from here it's hard to imagine the wet snow that has confounded our garden friends in eastern U.S. and Canada.
We have, in fact, had some frost but not enough to damage even the most tender plants. Some like Salvia leucantha and Amicia zygomeris are loving the cool temperatures and the short but bright days that we are experiencing right now. Saxifraga fortunei, although not at all tender, are also enjoying these conditions and continue flowering, unaffcted by light frost.
You'll see from the long shots of the garden that although it is definitely an Autumn scene, that there is still a lot of green in the picture. But there are some seasonal colour provided by my little Acer shirasawanum and Hamamelis x intermedia 'Jelena'.

Hi Barry,

Your Acer and Hamemelis just glow! Really can't go wrong with this pair at this time of the year.

Hi Paul,
How right you are! Even so, they are still quite rare in most gardens.

Superb display. The colour on your Acer is very lust-afterable.

Thanks Helen,

Every year it seems to be a little different. Always a pleasant surprise.
