Saxifraga fortunei

I've been growing Saxifraga fortunei for many years, and wish they  where better known. They look very tender, but in fact, are quite hardy in this region. The foliage is succulent looking , but survives a light frost,  jumping back to healthy condition in the warming morning air. Best of all the flower in October and November! They are blooming right now and are particularly happy in the warm Fall weather we are currently experiencing.
S. fortunei are great favourites of the Japanese, and there are many beautiful cultivars such as 'Mount Nachi'. I also have some British cultivars from Aberconwy Nursery in North Wales. I've lost the names but they easily recognizable by the pink blooms. Another favourite is S. 'Silver Velvet' which I believe to be a cross between S.fortunei and S. stolonifera.
